  17. Once again, the profile of the Macintosh user in the benelux countries was the
  18. topic of macclub benelux' yearly opinion poll. For the first time macclub
  19. benelux used the electronic way to collect these information: about 8,000 disks
  20. containing a HyperCard stack with pop up menus were sent to Macintosh users in
  21. the benelux countries.  This action met with a good response since about 2,500
  22. users filled in the electronic questionary.  Owing to this unique method of
  23. polling the received data could automatically be imported into spreadsheets and
  24. evaluated.
  25.  
  26. Besides the questions concerning the programs used, hardware configuration and
  27. peripherals, profession and fields of interest (data which will be treated more
  28. deeply in a market report and which are also available to interested companies)
  29. the Macintosh users were asked to give their opinion about the support provided
  30. by the importers and distributors of Macintosh software in the Benelux
  31. countries.

  33. Since 1990, the results of this annual poll indicate the winners of the macclub
  34. benelux awards: the GOLDEN DISK for the best supported and the ROTTEN APPLE IN
  35. PLEXIGLASS for the worst supported software product in the Benelux.
  36.  
  37. The question the users had to answer was the following:
  38. "For which of your (officially registrated) software packages do you get the
  39. best (or worst) support from the importer or distributor in the Benelux
  40. countries? Examples of a good support are: demo disks, guided tours, hotline
  41. service, seminars, affordable upgrades, regular information by means of e.g. a
  42. newsletter, etc…"
  43.  
  44. The Macintosh users attributed a total number of 1206 points to this item.  In
  45. order to obtain a representative market survey, only those products mentioned
  46. more than 30 times were taken into consideration for the statistics. The 10
  47. most important software products received about 70 %  of the total votes (i.e.
  48. 857).  And each one of these products got as well positive as negative votes.
  49.  
  50. Because of the unequal market penetration of the products the evaluation was
  51. not made on a match of the number of positive votes against the number of
  52. negative votes but based on the proportion between positive and negative votes
  53. a product received.
  54.  
  55. These percentages determine the winners of the GOLDEN DISK and the ROTTEN APPLE
  56. IN PLEXIGLASS.
  57.  
  58. The distribution of the points shows clearly that no software distributor can
  59. fully satisfy all his customers, even not Apple.
  60. However, some products catch the eye:
  61.  
  62. With 87 % of happy customers, ADOBE SYSTEMS EUROPE BV takes the lead and is
  63. awarded the GOLDEN DISK 1991 for the best software support in the benelux
  64. countries.
  65.  
  66. Despite the high quality of their DTP software XPress, Quark this year again
  67. comes out with the highest score of unhappy customers: only 20 %  of their
  68. clients are satisfied while 80 % state that this is the program with the worst
  69. support in the benelux.

  71. That is why Quark Inc. is once again awarded the ROTTEN APPLE IN PLEXIGLASS.
